4D v12 apps on the Mac App Store

25.07.2011
by 4D Team
NOTE: Due to numerous unannounced changes in Apple's submission policies, 4D can no longer support submissions of 4D applications to the Mac App Store. While you are welcome to submit your own 4D-created applications to the Store, 4D cannot provide support for the submission process. Invalidated links in the post below are now inaccessible.

In January, Apple launched the Mac App Store and application submissions have since been rolling in.

To aid you in getting your 4D-based applications into the store, we’ve provided a section on the web site to describe the benefits of this new method of distribution. We’ve also provided a FAQ, an instructive document, as well as an open source plug-infor your app to take advantage of Apple’s authorization scheme.

For the time being, the submission of 4D applications to the Mac App Store is limited to 4D Partners, as only applications created with 4D v12.2 (Hotfix 2) are valid for submission to the Mac App Store. This version – like other Hotfixes – is available exclusively to members of the 4D Partner program.

All other developers will be happy to know that the next update to 4D v12 – available freely to all licensed users – will give all 4D v12 developers the ability to submit applications to the Mac App Store.

In the meantime, we are encouraging 4D Partners who wish to distribute their products via the Mac App Store to submit their applications using the guidelines above. There are already several 4D-based apps in the store, submitted by 4D Partners who have been willing to submit their apps on a trial basis.

Please note that the plug-in linked above has not yet been updated for Mac OS X Lion, so early adopters of the new operating system should wait for an upcoming version that should be available shortly.
