Since 1984, the 4D product line has evolved to include a desktop relational database, an integrated client/server solution, an SQL front-end, numerous productivity plug-ins, an ODBC driver and an Internet development environment.

In 1993, the company released 4D Server, the client/server version of 4th Dimension, which broadened 4D, Inc.’s presence in many corporations and organizations. In 1995, 4D brought the power of 4th Dimension to the Windows marketplace, allowing developers for the first time to build truly portable applications that ran unchanged on both the Mac and Windows platforms.

In 1997, 4D embraced the Internet by integrating a web application server, which allowed developers to serve both Client-Server and Web Applications without any coding changes. 4D regularly followed this revolutionary product launch with new innovative releases, culminating in the latest release of 4D 2004.

4D 2004 is the first product that allows developers to develop for standalone, web, client-server and Service Oriented applications (SOA) without changing a single line of code. On the deployment side, 4D 2004 offers a true zero maintenance server with automatic application distribution, network failure recovery and automatic catastrophic failure recovery.
