Whether you are operating out of your home or an outside office, the city in which your business is based may require the issuance of a business license. Fees range from $10 to several hundred. Contact City Hall, often the Department of Revenue or Treasury, for details and requirements. Some cities have restrictions on home-based business. Make sure you comply with local regulations and that you obtain all required permits.
The links below will take you to a list of cities within each county. From there, you can search the city site for business license requirements. Most counties do not require business licenses in the unincorporated areas of the county.
Santa Cruz County, CA
Partnerships and corporations doing business in Illinois or with Illinois customers must submit an NUC-1 form with the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Sole proprietorships selling tangible property must also submit form NUC-1.
Business licenses are not required. However, you should contact the Zoning Enforcement Office in your city to ensure that your business is in compliance with city zoning laws.
